Old Saws

The last time I heard someone use the old saw, “The only sure things are death and taxes,” I had grown old enough to wonder why such a saying has been so accepted in the past. I mean, what about heart break? I know a woman who had three kids and found out her husband had another family under another name in a different country. I know a man who spent time at Folsom Prison(in the Old facility)because he drank and drove and got in an accident where he and the two people in the other vehicle were all severely injured. I know a man who, as a boy, shot his own brother. I've never lived ANYTHING like that. I'm nobody. I'm just a writer.
