Originality

Originality is rare - in Physics or in Philosophy or Art. Until I saw this frigthtened(?) cat, by Eugene, Oregon artist Sharden Killmore, I thought all the artfully artable Art had already been artistically arted.

Probley(I love this juvenile spelling🤪), all the stories tellable have been told, too. I think now, what's left is HOW the story is told. To me, this means "voice" - how the story teller's syntax flows, what vocabulary is used - a conveyed sense that the reader can literally TRUST the authenticity of the narrator! I have some completed work that steps in the face of all the so-called rules of grammar, syntax and spelling and yet the story flows like mercury, but editors can't stand, for instance, my narrator spelling gonads as "gonats," even when the narrator is 1st person and is in the sixth grade and tells you right up front that he's writing because a lady Judge told him he better.

Joe Smolen

Joe C. Smolen, AKA L.W. Smolen is an Oregon Coast writer of insufficiently exaggerated notoriety. Never having been arrested, he lives with his wife Sherrie and the ghost of their black, Standard Poodle Rico Suave in a really pretty good, Prairie Style house they built themselves. Since the Literary Magazine Fleas on the Dog of Kitchener, Ontario has permanently stopped accepting submissions, in order to read L.W. Smolen’s 2021 short fiction, A Real Guy, you are referred to joecsmolen.com. Some of L.W’s other, subsequent short fictions are archived at Olive Tree Review, Ginosko, Cardinal Sins Journal, Wrath Bearing Tree, Wilderness House and etc. Kirkus reviews once interpreted his work favorably.
